History: Architectural Style and Cultural District

歷史：建築式樣與文化街區

The DPS is a four-story building of a traditional elongated ‘street house’ design – yet elevated with a spacious sky well in the center. The design of this building comprises several Western historical architectural styles infused with some eclectic elements, including the local Minnan and Japanese style.

In addition, the original architect of the DPS first defined its interior with respect to functionality by dividing it into two major areas through the central stairs and the atrium, and then subdivided them into a number of spaces for specific purposes.

The DPS is located in the center of Stad Provintia – today’s Tainan inner-city area – the earlest developed town in Taiwan. Its city plan can be traced back to 1625 when the VOC relocated their Dutch personnel and factory, and Han Chinese residents at Baxemboy to Provintia.

“De Provintia Straat,” being the town boulevard, ran in a east-westerly direction from the Big Well by the Saccam Pier in the west to the Beiji Temple on the Eagles Tableland in the east.

“De Provintia Straat” (Minquan Rd.) was approximately 340 meters long and 50 feet wide – a six-lane road fitting for horse carriages to use. It has been designated by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications as Taiwan’s earliest official avenue.

本四層樓建物為一具寬廣天井、深邃挑高之傳統街屋。多種西洋建築歷史式樣融合折衷主義設計，包含在地的閩南及日式建築風格。

功能性來說，以樓內中梯與天井先將空間劃分為南北兩處，每處再細分各使用區塊。

建物本身位於台灣最早開發之普羅民遮市鎮，其都市計畫可追溯至1625年荷蘭東印度公司。
遷徙其北汕尾商館與荷漢人口至此居留。此市鎮大道，普羅民遮街，貫穿東西，從西側赤崁碼頭之大井頭延伸至東邊小丘陵鷲嶺之北極殿。

道路長約340公尺，荷蘭人設置6線馬車道，寬約50英尺約15.24公尺，為交通部公路局認證之台灣最早官道。

本館提供 多人單間 至 1 人 1 床 的多重住宿選擇，從家庭/好友齊聚到單人背包客入住皆宜。房型分為三間客房和兩間背包客。客房舒適寬敞，皆可加床。背包客區均設有休憩悠閒小客廳，且男女隔離。貴客可以享受真正居家的安全舒適體驗。
